NLNZ@LIANZA 2008: experience. engage. enable.

National Library + LIANZA = 2kool4skool

This year's LIANZA conference theme is Poropitia: Outside the Box. You can find an explanation of theme over on the conference blog. This year we're thinking OUTSIDE the box to get you INSIDE the National Library by offering some totally geeky (read: cool) stuff at the trade stand.

We'll have two touch screen PCs showcasing our latest digital offerings. We want delegates to let their fingers do the walking and drive their own digital experience.

If staying stationary isn't their thing, delegates will be able to use their laptop to connect to the internet for free through the Aotearoa People's Network wifi gateway.

No laptop? No problem. We're also offering two wifi enabled Asus "eee" PCs for delegates to use within the exhibit hall. It really is true that all good things come in small packages!

The People's Network will also have a presence at stand with a fully functioning APN library - PC's, headsets, webcams, wifi, digitisation equipment and LIANZA "library" portal homepage, and will be networked to the APN with access to Kete.

Just in case you thought we didn't have all of our bases covered, we're pushing the limits of Web 2.0 on the stand this year. We'll be twittering, flickring (here and here), and youtubing. We encourage delegates to join in the fun by twittering and flickring their own conference experience and reflect on sessions, exhibits, keynotes, and even catering!

Going to the LIANZA conference this year?

Include the tag #LIANZA2008 anywhere in your Twitter message and add it as a tag to your Flickr images.

The LIANZA tweets and Flickr images will be displayed on our large 46" monitor using Twemes, a site that aggregates tags from Twitter and Flickr into one handy location.

Come to the stand during lunch on Monday 3 November from 12.15-12.45, and hang out with National Library staff from the National Digital Library and Technology Services. Many of the LibraryTechNZ blog contributors will be there to chew the fat on all things digital. We look forward to interfacing with you!

I'll be there - it looks like great fun. I even bought a mask today for the ball :)

Just a qn, because you guys seem to "get it" more than most conference organisers - will there be wifi in the auditoriums and rooms where people will be presenting? This year I have been to four library conferences with very, very patchy wifi within the auditorium. Really frustrating when you are trying to push the content out via twitter.

Also - will anyone be doing a CoverItLive liveblog? (Here's an example of one I did from the Bridging Worlds Conference in Singapore )I'd be happy to do it for some of the time if someone sets up the login etc ...

Hi Kathryn,

I haven't heard anything about the availability of wifi access in the conference venue (other than the exhibit hall). I can only really comment on the exhibit hall, where APN will be providing free wifi access. Not sure it'll have a big enough radius to reach other parts of the venue. I've twittered a message to Kris (on the LIANZA conference planning committee) for comment! You also might try contacting the people behind the LIANZA conference blog for more help.

As for the CoverItLive liveblog, the National Library doesn't have anyone doing it (as far as I know). Is there anything I can do to help with the log-in other than hunting down wifi?

SkyCity wifi should be available all over the conference area. The have a flexible set up meaning that one room can become two and vice versa rather than a specific auditorium. We've checked with them and they assure us you can use it on Levels 4 and 5. Pricing is $60 for one 24 hour period. See the Registration desk if you want to buy it.

$60 for one 24 hour WIFI session - I have paid less in Gisborne!

i know this is in Auckland - but has no one heard of the New Zealand Digital Strategy.
A modern conference should have the network out of the box and into the venue - as part of the package. Oh well another black mark I guess, that the next conference has to try to do better.

Anyway rumour has it that you can't VPN on the APN!
