As soon as we heard about The Commons on Flickr in January this year, we were keen to be involved. And now we're super happy to announce that the National Library of New Zealand is the newest member of The Commons!
The announcement was made by Flickr's George Oates during her keynote address at the National Digital Forum conference this morning. George is the guiding force behind The Commons, and we're very happy to be working with her on this.
We've started with 120 images. We're looking forward to seeing what happens. We'll post a progress report in about a week. But for now - go check us out!
As a sign of my complete commitment to my job, I was videoed by George talking about the launch today - check out her sweet suxteen blog post (thanks Seb)

Great work Courtney and team!
I'm looking forward to finding out what your most popular photos will be - I heard from the State Library of New South Wales that their pictures that are most frequently 'favourited' are ones of cute animals (cute animal pictures on the internet? get out of town!) like this one.
This is very exciting! Also nice to see/hear you in that cool video on the Flickr blog. I love to see such enthusiasm for projects like this.
Looking forward to browsing the images!
Hey, thanks guys.
Joanna, the most popular photo so far is this panorama of Milford Sound with 1,626 views right now. I have to admit I didn't think of cute animals - in fact, I think the only animals in the photos I chose are dead ... trophy shark ... beached whales ... hmmm.
And Paul - I haven't had the guts to watch more than 10 seconds of the video, but yeah - I'm super excited about this.
